چکیده

Cold-pressed powders of the half-metallic ferromagnet CrO2 are dielectric granular metals. Hysteretic magnetoresistance with maxima at the coercive field arises from interparticle contacts. Dilution with insulating antiferromagnetic Cr2O3 powder reduces the conductivity by 3 orders of magnitude, but enhances the magnetoresistance ratio which reaches 50% at 5K. The negative magnetoresistance is due to tunneling between contiguous ferromagnetic particles along a critical path with a spin-dependent Coulomb gap. [S0031-9007(98)05996-1]

Production of Composite Materials by Mixing Chromium-Rich Ash and Soda-Lime Glass Powder: Mechanical Properties and Microstructure

A chromium-loaded ash originating from incineration of tannery sludge under anoxic conditions was mixed with low grade soda-lime glass powder coming from commercial glass bottles. The relative weight proportions of ash over glass powder tested were 30/70, 40/60 and 50/50. The solid mixtures, formed in green state compacts, were sintered at the temperature range of 800C up to 1200C. The resultin...

Effects of compaction pressure and particle shape on the porosity and compression mechanical properties of sintered Ti6Al4V powder compacts for hard tissue implantation.

Sintered Ti6Al4V powder compacts potentially to be used in implant applications were prepared using commercially available spherical and angular powders (100-200 mum) within the porosity range of 34-54%. Cylindrical green powder compacts were cold compacted at various pressures and then sintered at 1200 degrees C for 2 h. The final percent porosity and mean pore sizes were determined as functio...

Magnetotransport properties of polycrystalline and epitaxial chromium dioxide nanowires

Temperature dependent magnetotransport measurements were performed on polycrystalline and epitaxial chromium dioxide CrO2 nanowires fabricated using the selective-area growth technique. Polycrystalline nanowires showed a negative temperature coefficient of resistivity at low temperatures because of strong grain boundary scattering. The magnetoresistance MR value exhibited a width dependence, re...

INFLUENCE OF Si-POWDER CHARACTERISTICS ON THE PORE STRUCTURE OF Si-POWDER COMPACTS AND OF REACTION-BONDED Si3N4

In order to achieve a homogeneous starting material for the production of dense Si3N4 by post-sintering of RBSN, the morphological and chemical characteristics of the Si-starting powders as well as the pore structure of the Si-powder compacts have to be optimized. In this context, the influence of the grain size distribution on the micropore size distribution of the Sipowder compacts was determ...

Sintering and Foaming of Barium Silicate Glass Powder Compacts

The manufacture of sintered glasses and glass-ceramics, glass matrix composites, and glass-bounded ceramics or pastes is often affected by gas bubble formation. Against this background, we studied sintering and foaming of barium silicate glass powders used as SOFC sealants using different powder milling procedures. Sintering was measured by means of heating microscopy backed up by XPD, differen...
